A wide array of Celtic, World and Scottish acts have been
announced in the line-up to the World Ceilidh 2008. This
is the 20th Festival held by Knockengorroch and in celebration
will last four days from the 22-25 May at Knockengorroch
Farm in Dumfries and Galloway.
Scottish giants Capercaillie will play the World Ceilidh
for the first time, joining favourites Peatbog Faeries,
fusion artists such as Dreadzone, Banco de Gaia, the Soothsayers
and LoJo, Luisito Quintero from the Spanish Harlem Orchestra,
Balkan Carnival band Orkestra del Sol, techno dub masters
Zion Train, world renowned Bjork collaborator Shlomo, comedian
Phil Kay and more.
The festival takes place in a peaceful and stunning glen
in the Galloway hills in the Southern Uplands, which will
become a hive of creativity and celebration during this
family friendly event.
Festival founder and Knockengorroch resident Simon Holmes
said: ‘expect no less than the best at this our 20th
festival! From beatboxing to tin whistling, Gaelic song
to dubstep, again we invite all ages, creeds and persuasions
to come and celebrate with us at the World Ceilidh’
In addition to the musical line-up, an array of workshops,
dance performances and children’s activities present
plenty of opportunities for visitors to get involved in
learning new skills and about the cultural heritage of this
once densely populated valley.
In September 19-21 the three day sister Hairth Festival
will take place at Knockengorroch Farm. A more intimate
affair, the Hairth will reflect Knockengorroch Festivals
at their start: grassroots, acoustic and cosy. The line-
will reflect the diverse cross-over style that Knockengorroch
Festivals have become renowned for.
