| The
Hebridean Celtic Festival is a massive international Celtic
music festival, which takes place annually in Stornoway
on Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. The biggest
headliners in years gone by have been Runrig, and Van Morrison.
Many other acts take part in the event, including local
bands, solo artists and visiting International artists.
Organised largely by a dedicated
volunteer force this unique event established in 1996 has
seen phenomenol growth over the intervening years and is
renowned for its fabulous 'party' atmosphere being a true
homecoming for "islanders in exile" around the
globe. This year's line up includes The Proclaimers, Seth
Lakeman, Peatbog Faeries, Nuala Kennedy, Lau, Jenna Reid
and many more.
Demand for accommodation
in Stornoway and surrounding areas in advance of this year’s
Hebridean Celtic Festival has hit new levels, with available
beds being snapped up early.
Visitor requirements for accommodation during the festival
period (11th–14th July) is normally very high and
past festivals have seen hotels and bed & breakfast
outlets in Stornoway sold out. However, the festival organisers
have noted that this trend has shown a rise this year and
are making a two-pronged appeal. Caroline MacLennan, Festival
Director, said: "Demand is perhaps even exceeding our
expectations given that we regularly face this problem at
festival time. We would urge any of our festival-goers who
have not booked accommodation to give it their urgent attention.
We would also ask that if there are any providers of accommodation
in the area who have spare capacity, would they please ensure
that VisitScotland Outer Hebrides is notified?”
