Edinburgh's
"Grand Ole' Opry Of Folk" - The Royal Oak, held
it's annual Folkathon in aid of Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital.
The event began at noon, with Fife folk legend Andy Chung,
and ended at 2am with "The Royal Oak Bunch" (Alan
Hunter, Martin Boland & The Bothy Collective).
The Garden Sessions spoke
to organiser Ivor Birnie, who told us "there's been
a good response from people, lots of artists wanting to
play..." "...I've done it for the Sick Kids every
year, it's especially good now that [Deputy First Minister]
Nicola Sturgeon has announced that the hospital will be
staying there and not getting shut down, people of Edinburgh
were delighted to hear that news."
The event raised over £800
this year, which is double last year's total. Ivor told
us "it's been good fun, though it's hard work getting
it organised... musicians are musicians, they're not under
the kosh"
