Karine
Polwart's third solo album 'The Fairest Floo'er' is due
for release on December 15th. A slight departure from the
style of her last 2 albums, in that this will be mainly
traditional material - or at least in a much more traditional
vein.
Recorded with partner Mattie
Foulds in the spare room of her Scottish Borders home, the
album more than hints at its setting. Local ballad tradition
supplies the plaintive and elegant opening track, "The
Dowie Dens of Yarrow", her favourite of all Scots traditional
songs, whilst dense florid imagery infuses the poignant
"Birks of Invermay", and is echoed in the lyrical
Robert Burns love song "The Lea-rig".
For many, it might seem
as though Karine has dissapeared from the scene in 2007
- in fact it has been a productive year for Polwart with
the birth of her first child and the recording of not one,
but two albums worth of material.
