Jim King

"His music resonates through the psyche, and some of his songs are dead good too ." CELTIC CONNECTIONS

Jim King Jim King was attracted to folk music in the sixties, Jim started to play and sing when he was sixteen, to anyone who would listen. Most of his formative influences were the contemporary greats of the folk revival. However this has been tempered by a love of Blues, a hankering to be a cowboy and some mischievous comedy songs from Britain's Music Hall and Variety. Although the years he has lived in Scotland may have led to a faint thread of Celtic colouring weaving through some of his music, Jim has drawn on a diverse range of sources for his melodies and lyrics.Jim compered a folk club in Lincolnshire for a few years before moving to Scotland and earned a reputation as an excellent M.C. He has frequently fronted a variety of shows, concerts and gigs, and became a popular stand-in compere at the New Dawn Folk Club (Son of Star) during the ‘90s in Glasgow.

Based around a true story. In Chicago 1915, 844 souls were lost in just twenty minutes when a steamer with a great reputation (but little else of substance) just rolled over at its dock with 2,500 people on board. They were heading for a works picnic
