An Seisean Gàidhlig 3 Print E-mail

Prògram sònraichte a’ toirt sùil air òrain luaidh agus air obair a’ chlò. Tha measgachadh againn de sheann chlàraidhean, de Bhannal, Flòraidh NicNèill agus eile aig a bheil cliù mar sheinneadairean òrain luaidh agus a tha a’ cumail an traidisein beò, agus de sheinneadairean is còmhlain a tha ga ùrachadh ann an diofar dhòighean. Tha fiù ’s fireannach againn. Gu mì-fhortanach, chan eil Rona againn oir tha ise air a guth a chall. Chan eil Màiri i fhèin uabhasach binn.

Tron phrògram tha Anna NicIain agus Màiri NicIll Ìosa à Barraigh a’ mìneachadh do dh’Alan Lomax – agus dhuinne – cò ris a bha an luadh coltach.

A selection of waulking songs and snippets about the waulking itself, with a mix of older recordings, Bannal, Flora MacNeill and other singers who preserve the tradition and a few new interpretations experimenting with the form. There’s even a bloke singing one. What there isn't is our presenter Rona, who's lost her voice. Màiri's a bit hoarse, come to think about it.

Through the programme are snippets of Barra tradition-bearers Annie Johnstone and Mary Gilles explaining the waulking process to folklorist Alan Lomax back in the sixties.
