Well folks, the first show is now on the air waves... we hope you like it! A word on the show's title - 'Norlan Wind' is an alternative name for a song called 'The Wild Geese', originally a poem by Angus poet Violet Jacob (1843-1946); the late Jim Reid composed a lovely melody for the lyrics and in doing so added a song to the tradition that's dear to many singers. Our first show includes a major feature on this year's Cullerlie Singing Weekend near Echt in Aberdeenshire. If you're a lover of traditional singing, then Cullerlie is just about the best festival you'll find anywhere in the whole of Britain; nowhere else has quite the same magic atmosphere, enthusiasm, and variety and quality of songs. For info on this year's festival, look here: http://www.abdn.ac.uk/elphinstone/events/cullerlie09/ Upcoming shows will feature a variety of interviews, performances, reviews and retrospectives, including a look at the recent Edinburgh University Folk Society 50th Anniversary concert, a tribute to the late Jim Reid, and a look at a new project called 'Kist o Riches' (Gàidhlig: 'Tobar an Dualchais') which is currently digitising fifty years of field-recordings of Scots and Gaelic songs, stories, etc. to be made available online in the near future. * 'The Wild Geese', Jim Malcolm, from 'Sconeward' (CDTRAX083, 1995), jimmalcolm.com * 'The Moss o Burreldale', Hector Riddel (live) * 'Poison in a Glass of Wine', Ken Hall & Peta Webb, from 'As Close As Can Be' (Fellside FECD155, 2000) * 'The Grey Funnel Line', Jerry O'Reilly, from 'Down From Your Pulpits, Down From Your Thrones!'
