"The Chung, is a veritable tour de force." GARDEN SESSIONS

 

Andy Chung Andy Chung - has performed live, both solo and accompanied by other musicians, extensively throughout Scotland and the north of England. Over the past six years he has become a well loved character on the Scottish folk/world music scene, a finalist in the 1998 Danny Kyle awards at Celtic Connections in Glasgow and a regular performer at the Edinburgh Folk Club. Kikcaldy-born Andy drifted into a career in music after leaving Glasgow School of Art in 1988, playing in a succession of rock bands and rhythm and blues outfits. Though the musical seed were sown at a very early age through the Chinese folk music much beloved of his parents (within the Chinese comunity in Scotland, his father is a well known purveyor of Hakka mountain songs, a traditional form ecompassing story telling and intricate word play, often with a mischevious humour) his influences are also drawn from Scottish and Irish songwriting and a love for country blues styles...

There is a reluctance amongst the Glasgow folk-scene to accept 'The Wee Room' as anything but a traditional number with an unknown composer - the McLaughlin family, however - are in no doubt that Daniel McLaughlin was responsible - was he? The Garden Sessions doesn't know.
