Alan
Hunter
"One of the
best folk singers in Scotland." MARTIN BOLAND |
|
Alan Hunter has a distinctive style, often described
as "abrasive" - it's a style you'd usually see in Alan's
sessions, specifically the much acclaimed Royal Oak Saturday night
session (fortnightly). Alan combines his love for history and storytelling
to create songs which sound as though they've been around for hundreds
of years.

The
Long Grey Line (3 Mb
/ 3:38)
Written as a response to a
man Alan met once who, for no apparent reason had a real dislike
for the travelling people. After spending an evening round
the campfire with a group of travellers, this song was born.
The "long grey line" is one of many names for the
road. |

Maggie
Broon (1.8 Mb
/ 2:08)
Destined to become a traditional
classic, this song has all the essential ingredients of the
perfect folk song. It tells the true story of Alan's first
courting days, when Maggie Broon's brothers (mistakenly) thought
their sister had been de-flowered, and subsequently added
Dunoon to one of the places it's not entirely safe for Alan
to be. |
